What's NEW at The Watchery- LUXURY BREITLING WATCHES

A History of Breitling Watches
1884 - In St. Imier, in the Jura mountains of Switzerland, Leon Breitling opened a workshop specialising in making chronographs and precision counters for scientific and industrial purposes. In 1914 Leon Breitling died and the company was passed over to his son Gaston, a year later Gaston created the first wristwatch chronograph and subsequently provided pilots with the first wrist instruments. By 1923 Breitling had developed the first ever independent chronograph pushpiece.Gastons son, Willy Breitling took over control of the company in 1932 and in 1936 Breitling became the official supplier to the Royal Air Force. The Chronomat was introduced in 1942 - the first chronograph to be fitted with a circular slide rule. The company also widened its professional clientele to include the American armed forces. 1954 saw the creation of the Navitimer, a wrist instrument equipped with the famous navigation computer. This super chronograph became a firm favoutite among the pilots across the globe. By that stage, Breitling had already supplied the major international airlines with cockpit clocks. In 1962, Astronaut Scott Carpenter wore the Cosmonaught chronograph during his orbital fligh aboard the Aurora 7 space capsule.
1969 saw Breitling introduce the first ever self winding chronograph. This technical feat represented a major breakthrough for the entire swiss watch industry. 1979 saw the takeover of Breitling from the founders grandson Willy. Ernest Schneider took the helm.
In 1984 The Cronomat was launched and marked the return of the chronograph. It became the best selling line in the Breitling collection, a position it has held ever since. Soon after that in 1985, the Breitling Aerospace was launched.
Today, Breitling is still established in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the town where Leon Breitling opened his first chronograph factory 110 years earlier.

And we are here to supply you with these beautiful, luxury time pieces.

Dream Machines: the SLR Chronograph by TAG Heuer and The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren

To celebrate the launch of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren super sports car, TAG Heuer and Mercedes-Benz have combined forces and know how to produce a stunning commemorative timepiece exclusively for Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren car owners.
The SLR Chronograph by TAG Heuer, like the high-performance, 200-mph, ultra-luxury sports car that inspired it, is an audacious creation, at the avant-garde of high technology and design, yet with the look and allure of a true classic. The direct result of TAG Heuer’s historic relationship with McLaren Mercedes, the SLR Chronograph reflects the values common to both the brand and the team: passion, performance and sporting prestige. Like the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, the SLR chronograph combines a unique mechanical movement together with a daring inspiring design.

TAG Heuer and Team McLaren Mercedes: A Successful Partnership
Starting in 1985, the year TAG Heuer signed its partnership with the Formula 1 team, the two groups have worked side by side, creating not only one of the longest-running associations between a leading racing team and a luxury company in the history of Formula One, but also one of the most successful: six Constructors’ World Championship titles, eight Drivers’ titles (three with Alain Prost in 1985, 1986 and 1989, three with Ayrton Senna in 1988, 1990 and 1991 and two with Mika Häkkinen in 1998 and 1999).
The winning relationship goes back earlier still, to 1955, when Juan-Manual Fangio drove the original Mercedes-Benz SLR through the tight hairpin bends of one of the most gruelling road races in the history of motorsport: the 1000-mile Mille Miglia. During this race and all others, Fangio wore on his wrist, like every F1 World Champion since, a TAG Heuer, then named Heuer, timepiece.
Today, the TAG Heuer/McLaren Mercedes partnership is stronger than ever. All McLaren Mercedes cars carry TAG Heuer technology, not just in F1 but at all professional levels of the sport. McLaren Mercedes drivers and TAG Heuer Brand Ambassadors Kimi Räikkönen and David Coulthard, like their predecessors Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, and Mika Häkkinen, endorse TAG Heuer timepieces at every race or testing session. They also participate actively in the design and development of new TAG Heuer watches and functionalities.
In 2004 and to celebrate 20 years of partnership, TAG Heuer has renewed and extended its partnership with Team West McLaren Mercedes and its drivers, Kimi Raïkkönen and David Coulthard, becoming the team’s Corporate Partner and Official Timekeeper.
The SLR Chronograph by TAG Heuer: An exceptional, limited-edition chronograph for an exceptional, limited-edition supercar
Fluid lines, high end internally developed manufacture movement, perfection-driven architecture, unconventional styling, leading-edge ergonomic design: the SLR chronograph, like the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren to which it pays tribute, is in a class all its own. Exclusively designed for Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren owners, the daring chronograph was designed and developed by TAG Heuer product development teams in Chaux-de- Fonds, together with the Geneva watchmaker, Jean-François Ruchonnet. The idea for the chronograph was conceived in the F1 paddock during an encounter between TAG Heuer CEO and President Jean-Christophe Babin and the director of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Project, Klaus Nesser.
It draws on the unique design acumen of the world's most prestigious luxury-car manufacturer and the engineering and horological savoir-faire of the world's most prestigious maker of luxury sports watches.
The SLR Chronograph by TAG Heuer: Daring and Classic, Innovative and Traditional, a Superwatch for a Supercar.
The two logos – the TAG Heuer shield and the star of Mercedes-Benz – grace the black dial, which looks like a sports car dashboard. The two SLR “gill” patterns stamped at 3 o’clock pay homage to the car’s signature side-mounted exhausts, an echo of the 1950s SLRS. Another unique touch is the off-centred date counter at 7:30. Under the hood lies the peerless Calibre 36 automatic movement. Like the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren’s hand-built, supercharged 626-hp V8 engine, this is an exceptional source of power. The only 1/10 of a second automatic chronograph, beating at 36.000 alternances/, it is the standard-bearer of TAG Heuer’s watchmaking tradition. Yet it also represents an exciting new innovation, unique to the SLR Chronograph: the Calibre 36 has been specially outfitted by TAG Heuer watchmakers with a regulator that provides the TAG Heuer SLR’s dial the look and utility of a sports-car dashboard, with individual gauges for each function. All of which can be read simultaneously. Therefore it’s name: Calibre 36 Regulator
For reading the time, the hour hand has been shifted to the counter at 12 o'clock, while the hand at the center of the dial displays minutes and the counter at 9 o'clock displays seconds. For chronograph functions, the 6 o'clock counter displays hours, the 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock displays minutes and seconds sweep by on the central hand.
Another inspiration drawn from the prestigious sports car is the unique placement of the timepiece’s chronograph push buttons on the top of the fine-brushed stainless-steel case. This extraordinary ergonomic innovation – a first in the world of watchmaking – mirrors the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren’s unique steering wheel gearshift. Water resistant to 50 meters, the polished crown is adorned with the Mercedes-Benz logo, while the caseback is engraved with a limited edition number.
The SLR Chronograph is 14mm thick, with a diameter of 40 mm from 3 to 9 o’clock. Both sides of the sapphire crystal are treated with an anti-reflective coating. The dial is black and the stylish strap is in crocodile leather, with a folding, push-button buckle. Luminous markers give added visibility to the hands.
Fusing tradition and innovation, true classicism and cutting-edge invention, this is the unique – and exclusive – timepiece for Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren prestigious sports car owners, a timepiece as expressive and super-charged as the car they drive.

IWC Ranked Top Watch Brand In Exclusive Luxury Survey

2007 Luxury Brand Status Index(TM) Survey of Ultra Luxury Watches Places IWC Ahead of the Competition

NEW YORK, March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- In the 2007 Luxury Brand Status Index (LBSI) IWC was ranked as the number one luxury watch brand by affluent consumers in the US familiar with the brand. IWC was selected out of a highly competitive group including Patek Philippe, Breguet, Rolex and sister brands Vacheron Constantin and Cartier.

"This is an incredible result -- it reflects the tremendous work we have done over the past 3 years in North America," says Benoit de Clerck, President of IWC NA. "Actually, this result doesn't really surprise me considering the unique character of the brand. Our heritage, products and standard of quality separate us from our competition. Not only are we the only Swiss watch brand founded by an American but we are also the only Swiss manufacturer based in the German-speaking part of Switzerland."

As the first place winner in the overall LBSI, IWC surpassed benchmarks across all indices including quality, exclusivity, social status and self- enhancement.* In total, 80.9% of the brand familiar respondents declared that they would recommend IWC to people they care about versus a category average of 48.4%. "This astonishing figure positions IWC ahead of our competition and proves that we have a bright future ahead of us!"" adds de Clerck.

IWC has been setting standards in technological development and highly complicated precision watch-making since 1868. As the "engineers of fine watch-making," the brand solely produces men's watches. The pieces incorporate intelligent designs in a timelessly classical style and are further distinguished by their superb user friendliness. The "Probus Scafusia" seal that appears on every watch promises good, solid craftsmanship from Schaffhausen and reaffirms the brands commitment to the future. Respondents in the survey noted:

"The timepieces made by IWC are secrets shared by only a very few in the world; their workmanship and quality is unquestioned, their craftsmen are artisans of time itself."
"Quite simply, it is the ultimate in a watch, not garish or gaudy. Only you and a select few will really know it costs more than a pair of Mercedes."

For the engineers at IWC, pleasure in watches is more than pleasure in the accurate time. It is enthusiasm for an amazing idea, the interplay between precision and a creative solution. Accordingly, for more than 138 years, IWC has been devoting a tick more time to watches. The collection offers both horological specialties and traditional timepieces, all of which distinguish the brand for their innovative thinking and timeless, yet understated design. In the segment of horological specialties, watch enthusiasts praise IWC for its creative engineering art in pieces such as the Grand Complication (one of the most intricate mechanical wristwatches in the world that consists of 659 micro components). Pilot's watches, Aquatimer, Portuguese and Portofino fall under the more traditional watch/timepiece category. With their sporty, yet practical design and stainless steel or titanium composition, they are the daily companions of active people.

"Overall, we are incredibly happy with the outcome of the 2007 LBSI and the increasing brand awareness of IWC. It's virtually unbelievable to realize that a brand could grow so fast in such a large and sophisticated market," concludes de Clerck.

About IWC:
For more than 138 years, IWC Schaffhausen has been producing precision products of complex functionality and outstanding user-friendliness for watch connoisseurs who expect more from their watch than just having an accurate timekeeper. Since its foundation in 1868, the International Watch Company has built up a reputation as a long-established Swiss watchmaking firm with a passion for inventions, innovative solutions and technical refinements. Today the brand is more successful than at any time in its history. IWC uses this strength in a program of corporate social responsibility initiatives at home and abroad.
About the Luxury Brand Status Index:
As the only quantifiable measure of value and equity within the luxury segment of the US market, the LBSI stakes its claim as the leading authority in this arena. The defining factor of the survey is its objective perspective on the marketplace -- all ratings are done by the consumers themselves and are independent of marketing strategies. Consumers compared IWC to other top luxury brands across a variety of key attributes in order to verify its position as the leading luxury watch brand.
About the Luxury Institute:
The Luxury Institute is the uniquely independent and impartial ratings and research institution that is the trusted and respected voice of the high net worth consumer. The Institute provides a portfolio of proprietary publications and research that guides and educates high net-worth individuals and the companies that cater to them on leading edge trends, high net worth consumer rankings and ratings of luxury brands, and best practices. Publications include the monthly Wealth Report, the Luxury Brand Status Index surveys, the Luxury Best Practices surveys, the Luxury Consumer Experience Index surveys and the Luxury Website Effectiveness Index surveys.
Luxury Brand Status Index: The LBSI is the average of the four individual indices as measured by the questions for Quality, Exclusivity, Social Status and Self-Enhancement presented on a 0-10 scale.
